Wilma Ousley (66) of Altamont

Wilma Ousley (nee Hooks) died peacefully in her sleep on June 10, 2020 at her home in rural Altamont, IL at the age of 66.

Wilma was born on December 30, 1953 in Vandalia, IL to Melvin and Avanelle Hooks. She graduated from Altamont Community High School in 1972, and from the University of Illinois in 1976 with a degree in Horticulture. She married Donald Ousley on July 7, 1979. The two then moved to the homestead where her mother grew up in rural Altamont.

Wilma was incredibly talented at growing and caring for plants, and spent her life trying to make this world a more beautiful place. She worked at several local businesses, creating beautiful floral arrangements and helping others choose plants for their gardens and landscaping. Though she lived a quiet life, she was well loved by her friends and family. She was known for giving thoughtful and meaningful gifts.

She is survived by her husband, Don. Her mother, Avanelle Hooks of Altamont, IL. Her step-daughter Jennifer Ousley of Kansas City, MO. Her brother David (Gayle) Hooks of Mason, IL, niece Johanna Hooks of St. Elmo, IL, nephew Adam Hooks and great-niece Lucy Buckley-Hooks of Iowa City, IA, and many cousins.

She is preceded in death by her father Melvin Hooks.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Aperion Care of St. Elmo, Luther Terrace Senior Apartments, or to the donor’s choice.

A private family memorial service will be held at a later date. Gieseking Funeral Home, Altamont is assisting the family with arrangements.
