Lloyd F. Wakeland (87) of Shelbyville

Lloyd F. Wakeland, 87, of Shelbyville, IL passed away at 7:26 p.m. Tuesday, March 24, 2020 at HSHS Good Shepherd Hospital in Shelbyville with his loved ones by his side.

Lloyd was born on July 26, 1932, in Findlay, the son of Dennis and Ruby (Lofland) Wakeland. He was a 1950 graduate of Shelbyville High School. He went on to serve in the United States Air Force for 21 years and was proud to have served his country. Lloyd and June Spear were united in holy matrimony on November 10, 1951 and celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary before her passing on June 20, 2012. After June’s passing, Lloyd and Emily Thomas were united in holy matrimony on May 15, 2013. Lloyd was a lifetime member of the VFW Post #4829 of Shelbyville, the Roy Vanderpool American Legion Post #81 of Shelbyville and the Remann H. Harlan American Legion Post #370 of Moweaqua. He was also a member of the Fourth Street United Methodist Church in Shelbyville. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Surviving are his wife, Emily Thomas-Wakeland of Shelbyville; son, Tracy (Jennifer) Wakeland of Maroa; grandchildren: Megan (Eisen) Scherwitz of Houston, TX, Nicholas Wakeland (Alexis Sweet) of Sullivan, Jamie Murphy (Matt Smith) of Clarkston, WA and Zachary (Andrea) Wakeland of Mt. Zion; great-grandchildren: Addison and Abigail Scherwitz and Bryce, Kenzie and Kayla Wakeland; stepchildren: Debbie Thomas of Shelbyville; Steve Thomas of Shelbyville; Carol Elam of Mendota and Terri Thomas of Shelbyville; brother, John William Wakeland of Shelbyville and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, June Wakeland; daughters: Tammy Murphy and Julie Wakeland and several brothers and sisters.

Friends are invited to share their memories of Lloyd with his family during a visitation on Friday, March 27 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Shelbyville. Private graveside services will be held in Glenwood Cemetery. Memorials may be made in Lloyd’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association.
