Mary L. Brown, 60 of Brownstown, died at 1:35 p.m. Friday, March 13, 2020 at her home with her family by her bedside.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 17 at Gieseking Funeral Home, Brownstown with PeeWee Denton officiating. Burial will follow at Liberty Cemetery, rural Brownstown. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the Fayette County Cancer Fund.

Mary Lorraine was born on Sunday, March 6, 1960 in Vandalia, IL to Truman and Ida (Haslett) Rhodes. She married Jake F. Brown on October 29, 1977 in St. Elmo. She was a member of Kaskaskia Church, Beecher City where she had been a song leader. During her working career she had been a paramedic with Fayette County Hospital and with Transocean as the primary medical personnel on an off-shore drilling rig in the Gulf of Mexico. She had also been an EMT instructor and a car seat safety checker for the Illinois State Police.

Mary leaves behind her husband of over 42 years of marriage, Jake Brown of Brownstown; son, Jacob Brown and his wife Marissa of Troy; daughters, Rachel Seabaugh and her husband Eric of Brownstown and Rebecca Brown of Brownstown; brothers, Mike Rhodes of Brownstown and Joe Rhodes of Farina; sisters, Margie Sperry and her husband Roger of St. Elmo, Sharon Brown-Stein of St. Elmo, Paulette Hardig and her husband Kenny of St. Elmo, Susie Flowers of Altamont and Penny Miller of Mtn. View, AR; 4+ grandchildren, Jimmy ‘Beezer’ Caraway, Alex Caraway, Jaxon Seabaugh and Madelyn Mae Brown and a granddaughter arriving in July; many nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Pat Rhodes, sisters, Peggy Knierim and Billie Jo in infancy.
