Audry V. Gress, 92 of Effingham, passed away Wednesday, March 11, 2020 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.

Due to COVID 19 concerns, the visitation for Audry V. Gress has been cancelled. In lieu of visitation, his family will have a celebration of life at a later date. The memorial mass will remain as previously scheduled at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 17, 2020 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Effingham. Due to the updated CDC guidelines, the memorial mass for Audry V. Gress is being limited to his IMMEDIATE FAMILY ONLY. A private family graveside service will be held following mass at St. Anthony Cemetery with military rites. 

Audry was born August 24, 1927 in Calhoun County, Illinois, the son of Arthur Roman and Mary Helen (McGuire) Gress. He married Ora Johnson on November 24, 1948 in Hardin, Illinois. Audry served with the United States Marines from 1945 to 1946. For many years, Audry worked in the insurance industry and retired in the mid-1990’s. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Effingham and was a lifetime member of the Effingham Knights of Columbus #665.

Audry is survived by his wife, Ora of Effingham; children, Michael (Nancy) of Indianapolis, Indiana, Timothy (Vicky) of Mansfield, Lisa Alwerdt (Steve Moore), Mary (Dave) Walters and Vicki Gress all of Effingham; sister, Eleanor Robeen of Hardin; ten grandchildren, Bridget, Hillary, Patrick, Caitlin, Lauren, Collin, Daniel, Britney, Aaron and Jenny; and nine great-grandchildren.

Audry was preceded in death by his parents; son, James Patrick “Pat” Gress and brother, “Bud” Gress.
