Lester L Duckwitz 81 years old of Altamont died at 5:15am Monday, March 9, 2020 in HSHS St. John’s Hospital, Springfield, Illinois.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, March 13 in the Kull Funeral Chapel, Altamont with Rev. David McConnell of the First Christian Church of Effingham officiating. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 12:00 noon until 2:00 pm Friday. Military and Christian Burial Rites will follow immediately after the funeral service in Union Cemetery Altamont. Kull Funeral Chapel is assisting the family. Lester was born on January 24, 1939 in the Mark Greer Hospital, Vandalia, Illinois into the Christian family of Albert and Alma Bernahl Duckwitz. He married Betty Lorraine Clark on August 14, 1985 by Rev. Richard Bolin at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, rural Altamont, Illinois. Lester was a graduate from Immanuel Lutheran Grade School and St. Elmo Community High School. Lester was a Veteran of the United States Army enlisting on June 2, 1959 and received his Honorable Discharge on June 1, 1965. Lester retired at the age of 68 from R & H Plumbing and Heating, Altamont where he was employed most of his life. He was a member of VFW Post #7676 and the First Baptist Church both in Altamont.

Lester is survived his Wife Betty Duckwitz of Altamont: 3-Sons: Mike (wife, Virginia) Duckwitz of Altamont, Mark (wife, Pam) Duckwitz of Beecher City and Todd (wife, Tracy) Duckwitz of Hickory, North Carolina; 2-Daughters: Jayne (husband, Jerry) Edwards of Altamont and Vicki (husband, Blacker of Effingham. Stepson: R. J. Teets and Stepdaughter Tonya (husband Darrel) Gressel.

He was preceded in death by his Parents: Albert and Alma Duckwitz, Brother Kenneth and his wife Shirley Duckwitz and Grandson Hunter Duckwitz.

Memorials may be made to the Altamont Veterans of Foreign Wars, The First Baptist Church, both of Altamont and/or the donor’s choice.
