Melvin E. Conner, 96, of Mason diet at 11:40 p.m., Saturday, February 23rd, 2013 at St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital, Effingham.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 27, 2013 at Gieseking Funeral Home, Altamont with Rev. Paul Olson officiating. Burial will follow at Union Cemetery, Altamont. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 26, 2013 at Gieseking Funeral Home and for one hour prior to service time. Memorials may be made to the donor’s choice. Melvin was born on Tuesday, December 19, 1916 in rural Altamont, Mound Township to Daniel and Lora (Yates) Conner. He was a WWII Army Veteran. He married Phyllis Smith on May 3, 1941 at the Methodist Parsonage, Altamont. He was retired from Stateville Correctional Center, Joliet. He was affiliated with the United Methodist Church and a member of the Effingham County Farm Bureau.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis of Mason, son, Colin Conner (Margie) of Knoxville, TN, daughters; Gweneth Boyer of Port Aransas, TX, Evelyn Olson (Rev. Paul) of Carol Stream, and Yvonne Flanigan of Mason, brother, Wayne Conner (Joan) of St. Elmo, sister, Marilyn Lilley of Hobart, IN, 8 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and family friend, Bob.
He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Rita Cargle, one brother, 3 sisters and 3 sons-in-law.
