James S. "Jim" McDonald, 65, of Effingham, Illinois, formerly of Mount Vernon, Illinois passed away at 5:38 am January 21, 2020 at the Fayette County Hospital in Vandalia, Illinois. He was born July 19, 1954 in Mount Vernon, Illinois to the late Merritt "Mossey" and Betty (Faulkner) McDonald. James married Patty (Holtz) McDonald on May 26, 1984 in Mount Vernon, Illinois. They were blessed with nearly thirty-six years of marriage.

In addition to his wife, Patty (Holtz) McDonald, Jim is survived by his niece, Courtney Lane Sammons of Mount Vernon, Illinois; beloved dog, Benson; and sister-in-law, Donna Wood and husband, J. Nelson of Mount Vernon, Illinois.

In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his sisters, Donna McDonald and Joyce McVey.

Jim worked as a Buyer and Salesman at the Samuel-Midco Music Company until retirement. Later, he worked part time at Sears as a Salesman in Effingham, Illinois. Jim had a passion for golf and loved the Saint Louis Cardinals. He will be missed dearly by all who knew him.

A Memorial Service be held on Saturday, January 25, 2020 at 10:00 A.M. at Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens Chapel in Woodlawn, Illinois with Mr. Marty Mills officiating. Interment will follow. Memorials may be made in Jim's honor to the charity of the donors choice.
