Bernard E. “Bernie” Monroe, 73, of Toledo, IL passed away at 7:12 am on January 20, 2020 at HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, IL.

Graveside funeral services will be at 11:00 am on Friday January 24 at Washington Cemetery rural Casey. Graveside Military Rites will be conducted by Cumberland County Veterans. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 pm with Masonic rites at 8:00 pm on Thursday evening at the Barkley Funeral Chapel in Greenup, IL.

Bernie was born in Mattoon, IL on August 4, 1946 to Clarence and Beulah (Hurt) Monroe. He married Olive Kay Gross on November 25, 1986 in Las Vegas. Surviving is his wife Kay; stepdaughter Nickie (Ron) Orr of Indianapolis, IN; one grandson Keith Orr of Indianapolis. He was preceded in death by his parents and stepson Brent Stout.

Bernie worked and retired from Northern Petro Chemical in Morris, IL. In 1984 he moved to Toledo and farmed until his retirement. He served his country in the Army during the Vietnam War and was also a member and past commander of the Greenup VFW post #4598 and a member of the Toledo American Legion post #764, member of Greenup Masonic Lodge AFAM #125.
