Pastor John Hippard, 91, of Shelbyville, IL, passed away at 3:21 p.m. Tuesday, January 14, 2020 at HSHS St. John’s Hospital, Springfield, IL.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 18 at First Baptist Church in Pana, IL with Rev. Nat Kealan and Rev. Tim Yankee officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Friday at Howe and Yockey Funeral Home in Shelbyville, IL and from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Saturday, in First Baptist Church, Pana, IL. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville, IL with military rites by the Shelby County Honor Guard. A luncheon at the First Baptist Church in Shelbyville will follow the burial. Memorials may be given to First Baptist Church in Pana, IL or First Baptist Church in Shelbyville, IL.

John was born on May 21, 1928 in Marseilles, IL the son of Oliver W. and Hulda Hultmark Hippard. John attended Seneca High School and graduated in the Class of 1946. He then joined the U.S. Navy where he served as a Corpsman during WWII. John then served as a field representative for the Chicago Chapter of the American Red Cross for three and a half years. He attended Illinois State University and graduated from Chicago College of Medical Technology as well as Northern Baptist Seminary. He accepted Christ as his personal Savior on Christmas 1953 at the age of 25. John married Mildred June Lamprecht on October 8, 1955. God called them into the ministry on July 15, 1956. She preceded him in death on June 29, 2002. He married Alice Pauline Ryherd Greenwalt on February 21, 2004. Pastor Hippard’s ministry spanned sixty-four years. He was licensed to preach by the First Baptist Church in Hammond, IN on May 15, 1957 and ordained by the First Baptist Church in Lowell, IN on December 13, 1963. Pastor Hippard served First Baptist Church in Hammond, IN as Assistant Pastor from 1956-1960, First Baptist Church in Lowell, IN as Pastor from 1960-1967, First Baptist Church in Shelbyville, IL as Pastor from 1967-1984, Interim Ministries Pastor from 1984-1985, Temple Baptist Church in Omaha, NE as Pastor from 1985-1996, and First Baptist Church of Pana, IL as Associate Pastor from 1996-2010. He served as Pastor Emeritus at First Baptist Church in Pana, IL from July 18, 2010 until the time of his passing.

He is survived by his wife, Pauline; son, John Hippard (Susan) of Shelbyville, IL; daughters, Carol Richards (James) of Lebanon, OH, Linda Jarmin (Joseph) of Clayton, NC, and Lori Imhof (Chris) of Skokie, IL; step-son, Paul Conn (Debra) of St. Charles, IL; step-daughters, Alice Hunt of San Jose, CA, Mary Ellen Jones of Portland, OR and Paula Larimer (Mark) of Carol Stream, IL; grandchildren, John Paul Hippard of Tower Hill, IL, Jessica Sue Marrano (Robert) of East Setauket, NY, Noelle Richards of Lebanon, OH, Josh Jarmin (Oriana) of Raleigh, NC, Luke Jarmin (Beth) of Odenton, MD, Justin Imhof of Skokie, IL, and Ian Imhof of Skokie, IL; and 11 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Mildred; and step-son, Kelley Conn.
