Richard Lee Owens, 75, of Newton, passed away at 1:12 pm on Sunday, January 12, 2020 at his home.

He was born on August 8, 1944 in East Alton, the son of the late Orville Ray and Mary (Matheny) Owens. Richard married Helen Hockman-Larck on June 25 1994 in Jasper County and she preceded him in death on May 12, 2017.

Mr. Owens worked in the oil fields for many years before his retirement. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, mushroom hunting and liked being outdoors. He was proud of his home and enjoyed working on it.

Richard is survived by two sons; Richard (Gina) Owens of Watson and Michael Owens of Louisville, two daughters, Lawanda (Charles) Woodard of Colorado and Loretta (Harold) Marsh of Jewett, thirteen grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren, a brother, Wayne (Mary Kae) Owens of Flora, half-sister, Alice Colclasure of Clay City and by a daughter-in-law, Valerie Larck of Peoria. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two sons, Jamie Owens and David Larck, a granddaughter, Ashla Owens, a great granddaughter, Lexi Davis and by two half-brothers, Oscar and Thurman Owens.

A visitation will be held from 4 until 6:00 pm on Thursday, January 16 at the Triplett & Neal Funeral Home in Louisville. As per Richard’s wishes, no formal service will be conducted.
