Melvin Otto Beccue 92 years old of Altamont, Illinois died at 1:45 pm Tuesday afternoon January 7, 2020 at HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital, Effingham, Illinois.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, January 11 in the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Altamont with Rev. Dr. James F. Wright officiating. Visitation will be from 4-7 PM Friday and from 10 AM until the time of the service on Saturday, all at the church. Military Burial Rites will follow at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery by Altamont VFW Post #7676 and US Navy Funeral Honors. Melvin was born October 20, 1927 in rural Mound township, Effingham County the son of Edward Wilhelm Ferdinand and Augusta Maria Caroline Stuemke Beccue. On February 23, 1963 he married Freda Mae Haseley at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Vandalia, Illinois. Melvin was a veteran of the United States Navy, fireman second class, serving his country from November 30, 1945 to October 2, 1947. He was a milk distributor serving Carl Schroeder Dairy, Litchfield Dairy and lastly Prairie Farms Dairy for over 35 years. He also served Mound Township for 32 years in various capacities, a volunteer member of the Altamont Fire Department for five years. He was a faithful member of Immanuel Lutheran Church where he held several offices as on the Christian Board of Education, envelope committee, and a church usher. Melvin was an avid bowler and a St. Louis Cardinal baseball fan, as well as enjoying Nascar racing. He mostly treasured being with his family and friends.

Melvin is survived by his wife Freida of Altamont. 2-Sons: Darren Beccue of Altamont and Douglas (wife, Cris) Beccue of Bucharest, Romania. 2-Daughters:Rhonda (husband, Dan) DeFrank of McClellandtown, Pennsylvania and Cindy (husband, Mark) Vail of Altamont.

5-Grandchildren:Daniel and DeAnna DeFrank, Catelyn and Corey Vail and Lucas Beccue, and sister-in-law: Mrs. Lucille Beccue of Altamont; Several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his Parents, 2 Brothers:Clarence (wife, Arvilla) Beccue and Harold Beccue; Sister Hilma (husband, Albert) Schroeder.
