Wilmer E. Kruger, 76, of Dieterich, IL, passed away Tuesday, January 7, 2020 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 11 at Headyville Christian Church in rural Dieterich. Burial will be in Headyville Cemetery, with military rites. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday at Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham and also from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service Saturday at the church.

Wilmer was born on May 1, 1943, in Effingham, IL, the son of Ernest and Fern (Correll) Kruger. He married Carla Chesnut on January 19, 1974 at Headyville Christian Church.

Wilmer served in the United States Army from 1963-1966 and was stationed in West Germany. In his younger years, he enjoyed riding horses. He loved camping and trout fishing. He was a Deputy for Effingham County and Jasper County. He also was an Illinois Commerce Commission Police Officer and retired as an Illinois State Police Trooper.

Wilmer is survived by his wife, Carla Kruger of Dieterich; sons, Travis (Julie) Kruger of Effingham and Ryan Kruger of Dieterich; grandchildren, Alexander, Kara, Keaton, and Aubree; sister, Beverly Moore of Effingham; mother-in-law, Ilene Chesnut of Dieterich; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Duane Kruger in infancy and Rev. Ronald (Pat) Kruger; and sisters, Kathy Kruger and Joyce (Bob) Harris; father-in-law, Bob Chesnut; and brother-in-law, Kenneth Moore.
