Ruth E. Boaz, 85, of Altamont, died at 2:45 a.m. Tuesday, January 7, 2020 at Lakeland Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 11 at Jackson Township Baptist Church, rural Altamont with LeRoy Tucker officiating. Burial will follow at Little Prairie Cemetery, rural Altamont. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday at Gieseking Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the donor’s choice.

Ruth was born on Sunday, March 4, 1934 in Jackson Township, rural Altamont to Virgil Guy and Myrtle Evelyn (Larimer) Higgs. She married Arthur Turner on June 2, 1951 and she later married Lawrence Boaz on December 15, 1984. She was a homemaker and caregiver to many and had been employed over the years at the Altamont Garment Factory, Peerless of America and the Altamont Grade School. She was affiliated with the Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband of over 35 years, Lawrence Boaz, Altamont; sons, Bill Turner, St. Elmo and Patrick ‘Dewey’ Turner, Altamont; daughters, Twila Johnson Lee and husband Jerry, Altamont, Vickie Whitten, Altamont, Kathy Whitten, Murfreesboro, TN; sister, Rose Williams, Toledo; sister-in-law, Mary Higgs, Altamont; brother-in-law, Charles Goldsboro, Altamont; stepdaughters, Melinda Ritchey, Louisville and Diane Walker, Springfield; 11 grandchildren, Monica (Jon) Fopay, Crystal Johnson, Dorsey Johnson, Jr., Tiffany Johnson, Valerie (Aaron) Lawhorn, Melissa Whitten, Michael (Stephanie) Whitten, Jessica (Micah) Jorgensen, Cory Whitten, Hillary (Michael) Rudolphi and Priscilla Elliot; 10 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.

Ruth was preceded in death by; her parents, brothers, Wayne Higgs, Gilbert Higgs, Lyle Higgs, and Eddie Higgs; sisters, Luella Goldsboro and Irene Tucker; 1 granddaughter, Amanda Whitten and 1 great granddaughter, Breanna Johnson.
