Larry Rhodes, 78, of Altamont passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 25 at HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham, IL.

He was born on November 8, 1941 to the late Henry “Red” and Julia (Dial) Rhodes in St. Elmo, IL.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 28 at 1 p.m. at Gieseking Funeral Home, Altamont with Rev. James Wright officiating. Burial will follow at Union Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until service time on Saturday. Memorials may be made to Evergreen Rehabilitation and Nursing Home, Effingham, IL or to the donor’s choice.

He was married on February 9, 1964 to his loving wife, Elnor (Winter) Rhodes. They were blessed with 55 years of marriage and two children. Larry worked as a carpenter for many years prior to his retirement. He loved building, fishing, hunting, pool, and being with his family and friends.

He is survived by; his wife; son, Troy Rhodes and wife Tami; daughter, Hope Carbonaro and husband Mike; grandchildren, Jarrod Rodgers (Megan Bales), Nicole Gibson and husband Chuck, Elizabeth Rhodes, Hannah Cabonaro (Ryan Campbell); great-grandchildren, Braeden, Adelae, and Leah; along with many nieces and nephews, his best friends, and dog, Molly.

He was preceded in death by his parents; step-father, George Hatfield; Inlaws, Lawrence and Elsie Winter; sisters, Betty Baker and husband Cecil, Joane Julius and husband Bob, Susie Goldsberry; brother, Robert Rhodes; sister-in-law, Betty Higgs and her husband Junior and their daughter Kathleen; grandchild Heather Rhodes.
