James "Jim" Homann (69) of Altamont

Jim Homann 69 years old of Altamont, Illinois died at 7:06 am Sunday, December 22, 2019 at the Aperion Care of St. Elmo, Illinois.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday December 28 in the First Baptist Church of Altamont with Rev. Leroy Tucker officiating. A Visitation for family and friends will be held from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Friday at the Kull Funeral Chapel, Altamont and again for one hour prior to the funeral service on Saturday at the church. Burial rites will follow at Pleasant Grove Cemetery, rural Altamont or Moccasin, Illinois. Kull Funeral Chapel is assisting the family. Harry James Homann was born January 17, 1950 in the Mark Greer Hospital, Vandalia, Illinois one of three sons into the Christian family of Harry Fredrick and Helen Marie Butcher-Homann. He was a graduate of the class of 1969 from Beecher City High School. Jim furthered his education at Lakeland College studying machinery, welding and other manual arts. Jim was self-employed as both a grain and cattle farmer most his entire life beginning at the age of 14 on the family farm. During the off season for farming he worked for Best Homes in Effingham delivering pre-built homes, even after suffering an acute accident on August 18, 1990, limiting his mobility, but not his desire to farm and live his life. He was a member of the South Side Baptist Church in Effingham. Jim also was involved in tractor pulling and traveled the United States for pulling events. He was once featured on the cover of the magazine “Puller” and belonged to tractor pulling organizations. Jim loved to travel.

Jim is survived by his companion Janet Marie Hillhouse of 32 years; 2 Brothers: Harold “Sparky” Homann, and Dennis and wife Linda Homann, Nephew Tyler Fredrick and Niece Nicole Marie Homann all of Altamont, Illinois; as Jim referred to as his two stepsons: Michael (wife Onya) Hillhouse and their daughter Cora of Plant City, Florida and Todd (wife Jennifer) Hillhouse and their 3-children: Hayden, Henry and Sophia of Melbourne, Florida, and several Cousins in the family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, uncles and aunts.
