Michael R. Connor, 68, of Newton, Illinois passed away Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at Deaconess Hospital, Evansville, Indiana.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, February 17 at the Grace United Methodist Church with Rev. Tim Pearce officiating. Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Saturday in the church. Burial will be in the Westlawn Memorial Park, Newton. Memorial gifts may be made to the Grace United Methodist Church, Newton or to the Newton Elementary Mentor Program. Crain Funeral Home, Newton is in charge of arrangements.
Michael was born March 28, 1944 in Effingham, the son of Dewey Ross and Kathryn (Kinsel) Connor. Mike married Donna Gross November 26, 1965 in Mattoon. She survives. Mike was a civil engineer and registered land surveyor having retired from Connor and Connor, Inc. in Robinson. He was an active member of the Grace United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Men and served as church treasurer. He served as chairman of the zoning board for the City of Newton and was a mentor at Newton Elementary School. Mike was an avid Newton Eagles and St. Thomas sports fan. He enjoyed traveling, being of service to others and spending time with his family and friends.
Survivors are his wife of 47 years, Donna Connor of Newton; daughters, Laurie (husband Larry) Zuber and Michelle (husband John) Stone of Newton; grandchildren, Jacob, Lucas, Joseph and Abigail Stone and Madeline and Claudia Zuber, of Newton; brother, David (wife Lisa) Connor of Newton; sisters, Miriam Connor of Chicago, Carol (husband Phil) Jackson, Becky (husband Bruce) Craddock of Marion, Mary Ellen Connor of Wilmington, N.C., Joanna (husband Karl) Mueller of Elgin and Barbara (husband Bob) David of Colorado Springs, Colo.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Dewey and Kathryn Connor.
