Shirley H. Lacey, 96, of Effingham, passed away Wednesday, November 13, 2019 at HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham.

She was born December 24, 1922 in Ramsey, the daughter of William Hoke Hoyle and Florence (Hoffman) Hoyle. She married Luther E. Lacey on May 8, 1945 at Scott Air Force Base and he preceded her in death in 1986.

Shirley is survived by two daughters: Mary Ann Rothe of Altamont and Joyce (Richard) Quandt of Effingham; seven grandchildren: Lori (Mike) May, Jeni (Chris) Meyer, Kandy Bouquet, Christopher (Nikki) Quandt, Jason (Sherri Ford) Quandt, Jill Quandt, and Justin Lacey; fourteen great grandchildren; one brother: Rex (Evelyn) Hoyle of St. Jacob; one sister: Lela (Herbert) Matthews of Pana; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents: William and Florence Hoyle; one son: William Lacey; one brother: Gene Hoyle; seven sisters: Delsia Beasley, Agnes Stelmar, Ann Randall, Norma Grace Hoyle, Eva Taylor, and Hazel Hoyle.

Shirley was a member of the Friedens United Church of Christ and the Ladies Guild, Farina, IL, 50-year member of the Effingham Eastern Star, the American Legion Auxiliary Post 411, and the Stitch and Chatter Club. In her younger years, Shirley was a teacher at the Shafter one room school, and was proud of being a Rosie the Riveter in St. Louis, MO during WWII.

Funeral Services for Shirley Lacey will be held Saturday, November 23 at 11:00 a.m. at the Friedens United Church of Christ in Farina with Dr. Jerry Gesell officiating. Burial will follow in the Elder Cemetery in Kinmundy. A visitation will be held at the Church on Saturday, the 23rd, from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. In Shirley’s honor, memorial donations may be made to the Friedens United Church of Christ in Farina or to the American Legion Auxiliary Post 411 and will be accepted by the Sutherland-Rankin Funeral Home at 310 North Broadway Salem, IL 62881 (618) 548-1234, entrusted with the family’s care.
