Chrystal Louise Peters, 99, of Effingham, IL, passed away Thursday afternoon October 31, 2019 at Lavender Ridge in Effingham, IL.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, November 4 at Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham. Burial will follow in Mt. Gilead Cemetery in rural Greenville, IL. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Sunday. Memorials may be made to Centenary United Methodist Church, HSHS Hospice Southern Illinois, or Alzheimer’s Association. Chrystal was born in Bond County near Pocahontas, IL, on February 13, 1920 to Robert and Marcella (File) Hunter. She married Oscar E. Peters on December 28, 1941. He preceded her in death on June 17, 1976. Chrystal was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church in Effingham. She volunteered working at the Braille Center at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Effingham for several years. Chrystal retired as a receptionist and switchboard operator at Fedders Corp. After retiring she worked as a part-time receptionist at Lakeland Nursing Home. Chrystal enjoyed traveling, even taking a trip to the Holy Land. She also enjoyed embroidery and baking for her friends.

Chrystal is survived by her son, Eugene H. “Gene” (wife, Patricia “Pat”) Peters of Arnold, MO; daughter, Chrystal A. “Chris” (husband, Tom) Uptmor of Effingham; daughter-in-law, Brenda Peters of Florence, AL; grandchildren, Melissa Schnorbus, Gregory (Tina) Peters, Robert (Krystal) Peters, Heather (Scott) Miller, Rachel Peters, and Raymond (Christy) Uptmor; 13 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-greatgrandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Oscar; son, David C. Peters; sisters, Margaret Schmollinger and Edna Addington; and brother, Gerald Hunter.
