Edwin L. Mattix, age 77, of rural St. Elmo, Illinois passed away at 2:25 p.m. on Sunday, October 27, 2019 in Springfield, Illinois.

Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 31 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in St. Elmo, Illinois. Father Michael Rosa will be officiating. Burial will be in Sidener Cemetery in rural St. Elmo, Illinois. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Pagel Funeral Home in St. Elmo, Illinois. Edwin was born on January 16, 1942, the son of Presley and Bernice (Schwarm) Mattix in St. Elmo, Illinois. Edwin married Mary Jane Niendiek on August 20, 1966 at St. Francis Catholic Church in Teutopolis, Illinois.

Edwin graduated from St. Elmo High School in 1961. In his early adulthood, Edwin worked in factories, delivered milk and farmed with his father. Eventually, he took over the centennial family farm, which he worked until his retirement in 2007. Edwin had a love for toy tractors and was a member of the National Trail Toy Club where he served as President and Vice-President. He also had a gift for restoring broken and discarded toy tractors, Edwin was also a Past President of the Sidener Cemetery Board. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Effingham, Illinois.

Edwin is survived by his wife, Mary Jane Mattix of rural St. Elmo, Illinois; one daughter, Paula Mattix-Wand (husband Gerry) of Bethalto, Illinois; two sons, Phillip Mattix of St. Elmo, Illinois and Patrick Mattix (wife Jeri) of Haubstadt, Indiana; four grandchildren, Aaron and Emma Mattix-Wand and Justin and Ryan Mattix; one sister, Louann Mattix of Champaign, Illinois.

Edwin was preceded in death by his parents, Presley and Bernice Mattix.
