William E. "Bill" Robey, 88, died Thursday, October 10, 2019 at his home in Effingham.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 19 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Effingham with burial in St. Anthony Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday at Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to DAV, FOP or the Effingham Canine Unit Fund. Bill was born at home in Neoga, IL to William and Mary Robey on May 10, 1931. He married Bonnie Schmollinger on June 11, 1960. He spent his entire life serving others as a law enforcement officer. He began his career in St. Louis, then Greenville and ultimately settling in Effingham and worked on the police force there for 30+ years. He was a veteran of the Korean War and served faithfully in the Navy for 8 years. He was a member of DAV, FOP, American Legion Post 120 and Effingham Knights of Columbus Council #665. His favorite past time was enjoying time with family and friends and bringing joy to others.

Bill is survived by his wife of 59 years, Bonnie A. Robey of Effingham; sons, William E. Robey and Thomas J. (Christina J.) Robey.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughters, Karen and Kathy and sister, Mary Elizabeth Robey.

Bill’s family would like to express their sincere gratitude to MICU nurses and staff at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis and all others who lovingly cared for Bill.
