Lydia A. (Childress) Beck, 93, of Beecher City, IL passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 6, 2019 at the Lutheran Care Center in Altamont, IL.

She was born on July 21, 1926, in Macon County, IL, the daughter of Jesse and LaVada (Wright) Childress. She graduated from St. Elmo High School. Lydia and Larry J. Beck were united in holy matrimony on January 3, 1947, in Vandalia, IL and celebrated 54 years of marriage before his passing on December 11, 2001. She was a long-time member of the Church of Christ in Beecher City. Lydia had a heart of gold, the patience of a saint, love in her heart for everyone and was a competitive card player.

Surviving are her children: Shelby Strickland of Decatur, IL; Richard (Janet) Beck of Bella Vista, AR; Ronald Beck of Effingham, IL, Dennis Beck of Beecher City, IL, Leila (Mike) Wills of Beecher City, IL and Roger (Rachel) Beck of Effingham, IL; daughter-in-law, Jan (Wayne) Werner of Effingham, IL; sister, Dorthea (Darold) Rhodes of Vandalia, IL; 18 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and countless others who lovingly called her “Grandma.”

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Michael L. Beck; daughter, Bonnie (Robert) Doty; son-in-law, Carl Strickland; daughter-in-law, Wanda Beck; sisters: Sletta (Logan) Diveley, Mary (Ralph) Watson and Lenora (Otis) Smith-Parkison; brothers: Ralph Childress, Don Childress, Gene Childress, Nelson (Alvena) Childress and Wayne (Winona) Childress.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 9 at Buchanan Cemetery in rural Herrick, IL. Memorials may be made in Lydia’s name to the Lindsey Beck Trust, %Roger Beck, 15028 N. Haarmann Ave., Effingham, IL 62401 or the Buchanan Cemetery, %Christine Cothern, 914 E 3200 Ave., Ramsey, IL 62080. Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Beecher City, IL is assisting the family.
