Zola Mae Lankford, 90, of Effingham, IL, passed away Tuesday, October 1, 2019 at HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham.

According to Zola’s wishes, there will be no public services. Burial will be in Mason Cemetery in Mason, IL. Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham is assisting. Zola was born on October 7, 1928, in Effingham County, IL, the daughter of Claude N. and Flossie M. (Macklin) Rogers. She was united in marriage to William Dale Lankford on January 21, 1951, and he preceded her in death on June 1, 1975. Zola was a positive and caring woman with great stories to tell. She was kind-hearted and had a great love of her daughters. Her love of animals was influential in her involvement with E.A.R.S. Zola was also strong, independent, and one tough cookie who always had a smile on her face.

Zola is survived by her sister, Wanda Scarber of Mason, IL; son-in-law, Steve Dempsey of Effingham, IL; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and wonderful four-legged companions, who will continue to receive care and love through Zola’s trusted friends at E.A.R.S.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughters, Jennith Dempsey and Cynthia Lankford; and sister, Vivian Warner.
