Tyson Gabriel Javier Mendoza, age 5, of Gays passed away at 4:01 p.m. Friday, September 27, 2019.

Funeral services honoring his life will begin at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, October 3 at Schilling Funeral Home in Mattoon with Pastor Joe Stephens officiating. Burial will follow at Dodge Grove Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 11:00 a.m. until time of service Thursday.
Tyson’s family welcomes anyone attending to wear his favorite color blue in honor of Tyson.

Tyson was born on December 19, 2013 in Mattoon the son of Ciara Jean Bowers and Marcos Antonio Mendoza.

Survivors include his loving parents, Ciara and Justin Hooker; Marcos Mendoza; siblings, Ava Mendoza, Tatum Mendoza, Amelia Mendoza and Alexander Pack; grandparents, Diana Smyser (Shane Perry), Jack Bowers and Jenny Hooker (Bob Eakle); great grandparents, Toni Hooker, Ron (Barbara) Hooker and David (Marilyn) Smyser; aunts, Jessica Bowers and Jenna Hooker; uncles, Jesse Smyser and Alejandro Silva; cousins, Lynlee Easter and Roman Beliz; special canine companion, Deimos.

Tyson attended kindergarten at Sullivan Elementary School. He was a great student, loved to learn and make new friends. Tyson’s favorite color was blue and he was interested in everything dinosaurs. He enjoyed playing outside and riding his four-wheeler. He was the sweetest and most loving little boy. Tyson’s smile and tender heart will be deeply missed.
