Thomas was born on June 26, 1953, in Teutopolis, IL, the eighth child of nine to Charles and Grace (Niemeyer) Hotze. He graduated from Teutopolis High School. He was united in marriage to Angela M. Hoene in 1979; they celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary this April.

Tom was a member of St Francis of Assisi Catholic Church and the Men’s Sodality, Teutopolis Knights of Columbus, and the Effingham County Farm Bureau. Tom was truly proud of his farming legacy, being able to farm the same land his dad did and pass the tradition on to his son. He was always willing to help his friends and neighbors and enjoyed making people feel special. Tom found joy in a good day’s work and the simple things, whether this was having a meal with friends at the Kountry Kitchen, telling a joke, or sending a message to brighten someone’s day.

Tom is survived by his wife, Angela Hotze; children, Allison Hotze, Julie (Logan) Wilder, and Jacob Hotze; grandson, William Thomas Wilder; siblings, Sr. Jane Marie Hotze, Ruth (Joe) Schmidt-deceased, Jerry-deceased (Ann) Hotze, Joe (Andrea) Hotze, Mary (Bill) Witt, Mark (Dianna) Hotze, Beth (Gene) Bastedo, and Karla (Allen) Schumacher; and many cherished in-laws, nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.
