Ruby P. Berns, 79, of Effingham, IL, passed away Friday, September 13, 2019 at HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, IL.
According to Ruby’s wishes, cremation rites will be accorded. There will no services held at this time. Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham is assisting the family.

Ruby was born on June 14, 1940, in Fair Play, MO, the daughter of Thomas and Esther (Jenkins) Sawyer.
Ruby worked at Walmart for many years. She enjoyed gardening, doing crosswords, and loved watching FOX News and Forensic Files. Ruby had a good sense of humor and was a conversationalist.
Ruby is survived by her sons, Jeffrey Sparks and John Randall “JR” Sparks both of Effingham; and sister, Cordia Virginia Bauman of Bolivar, MO.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and 8 siblings.
