Robert James “Jim” Standley, 66, of Shelbyville, IL, passed away at 5:57 p.m. Tuesday, July 30, 2019 in Shelbyville Manor.

Funeral services will be held at 7:00 p.m. Saturday, August 3 in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL. Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Saturday. Burial will be at a later date in Eiler Cemetery near Tower Hill, IL. Memorials may be given to Hot Rods for Cancer in Pana, IL.

Jim was born on September 21, 1952 in Altamont, IL, the son of Robert Louis and Odie Evelyn (McCasland) Standley. He graduated from Sheridan High School in Wyoming. He began working as a shear operator for Consolidated Coal Company in Coffeen, IL. Jim then worked for International Paper in Shelbyville for 11 years. He returned to the mines, working as a shear operator for Consolidated Coal Company in Sesser, IL, Monterey Coal Company in Gillespie, IL and retired in 2016 as a mechanic for Peabody Coal Company in Coulterville, IL. Jim attended Lakewood United Methodist Church and was a member of United Mine Workers Association District #12, Local 1545 of Sesser, IL. He enjoyed car restoration and spending time with his family and friends. Jim married Kelli Ann Martz on June 24, 1996.

He is survived by his wife, Kelli; daughter, Michelle Christine Standley of Pana, IL; son, Joshua James Standley of Shelbyville, IL; sisters, Mary (Al) Black of Fairfax, VA, Beth (Ron) Blair of Vilonia, AR, and Cristi (Robin) Toland of Malvern, AR; brothers, Don (Jackie) Standley of Lone Oak, TX, and Jeff (Jerilynn) Standley of Asheboro, NC; granddaughters, Kendall and Katelyn Standley; and special friends, Mike Barr of Pana, IL and Packy Paxton of Du Quoin, IL.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Evelyn; brother, Alan Standley, and his grandparents.
