Leonard C. Willenborg, 89, of Effingham, IL, passed away Friday, July 12, 2019 at Lakeland Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Effingham.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 16 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Effingham. Burial will be in St. Anthony Cemetery in Effingham with military rites. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday, followed by a 7:00 p.m. Knights of Columbus rosary and Fourth Degree service, all at Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham. Memorials may be made to St. Anthony Schools. Leonard was born on February 11, 1930, in Effingham, IL, the son of Clem J. and Theresia (Haarmann) Willenborg. He was united in marriage to Judith Hasemeier on April 7, 1956 at St. Cecilia Church in St. Louis, MO.

Leonard was an agent for DX and Sun Oil for many years. He served in the United States Army and was stationed in Korea during the Korean War from 1951-1953. Leonard enjoyed working in his vegetable garden and playing cards with family and friends. He was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, Effingham Knights of Columbus Council 665, DAV, and Effingham American Legion Post 120.

Leonard is survived by his wife of 63 years, Judy Willenborg of Effingham; sons, Keith (Pat) Willenborg and Ron (Kim) Willenborg both of Effingham; daughter, Sandra (Paul) Evans of O’Fallon, IL; niece, Susan (Evan) Dunlap of Effingham; grandchildren, Nick Willenborg (friend, Mariah), Rachel (Sam) Smith, Megan (John) Rice, Andrew (Amber) Willenborg, Loryn Evans (friend, Adam), Erin Evans, and Bryce Evans (friend, Shania); great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Rice and Bryar Smith; and sisters, Mary Ann Swingler of Sigel, IL and Sr. Luella Willenborg SSND of St. Louis, MO.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clem and Theresia (Haarmann) Willenborg; and brother-in-law, George Swingler.
