Paul Dee Winters, 71, of Watson, IL, passed away on Sunday, June 9, 2019 at the Villas of Hollybrook in Pekin, Illinois.

A celebration of life for Paul will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 17 at Christ’s Church of Effingham. Burial will be in Cisne Cemetery in Cisne, Illinois with military rites. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Sunday at the church. Services are in the care of Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham, Illinois.

Paul was born on January 30, 1948, in Mount Vernon, Illinois, to John and Evelyn (Ethridge) Winters of Geff, Illinois. He married Judith Ann Harrell on July 3, 1969 at Pleasant Grove Christian Church, Geff, Illinois. She preceded him in death on December 21, 2018. Two children were born to this union, Jodi Knox-Holub of Pekin, Illinois and Ryan Winters of Kodak, Tennessee. Paul received his Bachelor of Science Degree from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale in June 1970. He later received his Masters of Education from Eastern Illinois University in May 1980. He taught at Central School, Effingham, Illinois from 1972 until 2005 when he retired from Effingham Unit 40.

Paul served in Vietnam and was a SP4 from March 1971- April 1972. He was a Chaplain’s assistant. Paul was a member of Christ’s Church of Effingham where he served over thirty years as an elder and in other ministries.

Paul is survived by his daughter, Jodi (Mike) Knox-Holub of Pekin, Illinois; son, Ryan (Ginny) Winters of Kodak, Tennessee; grandchildren, Jacey, Jordyn, Jansen, Colton, Collin, Ethan, and Liam; brothers, John (Shannon) Winters and Joe Winters both of Flora, Illinois; sister, Mary (Gary) Gain of Fairfield, Illinois; sister-in-law, Joilene Kettle of Castaic, California; mother-in-law, Ferne Harrell of Flora, Illinois; and 2 nieces and 2 nephews.

Paul was preceded in death by his wife, Judith; parents, John and Evelyn Winters; brother, Galen Winters; and father-in-law, Charles Harrell.
