James P. Watson, 75, of Effingham, IL, went to be with his Lord on Friday, June 7, 2019, at Willowbrook of Effingham.

A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 13 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Teutopolis. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Effingham with military rites. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Thursday in St. Clare Hall within St. Frances of Assisi Church. Services are in the care of Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham.

James was born on March 30, 1944, in Eldorado, IL, and was adopted by Arthur “Buddy” Watson and Mary K. (McDonald) Watson. He was united in marriage to Alice M. Bloemer on February 24, 1968, in St. Louis, MO, and she preceded him in death on February 21, 2018.

James retired from Quad Graphics in 2011. He enjoyed reading, American History, doing crosswords, listening to music, and his animals. James served his country in the United States Army from 1963-1967. He was a member of the Teutopolis American Legion Post 924, Effingham DAV, and Teutopolis Knights of Columbus Council 2874. He was also a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Effingham.

James is survived by his daughters, Kristina M. “Tina” (David) Timmer of Moline, IL and Paula M. (Trent) Schmid of Teutopolis, IL; son, Wesley J. (Jamie) Watson of Shelbyville, IL; grandchildren, Alyssa and Evan Timmer, Jordan Williams, Julia Schmid, and Claudia, Cade, and Chloe Watson; and 2 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Alice; brother, Charles W. Watson; niece, Patricia A. Watson; and a great-grandson, Kaden P. Williams.
