Herma Jean “Jeannie” McGee, 86, of Effingham and formerly of Louisville passed away at 12:30 am Tuesday, May 21, 2019 at Willowbrook Memory Care Center in Effingham.

She was born on April 10, 1933 in Kinmundy, the daughter of the late Halice and Sophia (McCully) Lewis. She married Stanley McGee on August 28, 1948 and they later divorced. Later, Jeannie met her special friend, Don Kinkelaar. They enjoyed each other’s companionship up until her death.

Jeannie worked as a waitress for several years at C&E Café in Louisville. She later worked at Martin’s IGA and Pizza Man in Effingham. Jeannie was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxillary in Effingham. She enjoyed dancing with clogging being her favorite. She had a great sense of humor and loved telling jokes. In her younger years, she enjoyed participating in the Louisville Fall Festival parade. Jeannie loved socializing with people. Her greatest joy was spending time with her granddaughters and great - grandsons.

She is survived by a daughter, Ann Hassell of Hoyleton, three granddaughters, Melissa (Rodney) Murbarger of Effingham, Venita Romack of Neoga, and Kristen (Michael) Logan of Iola, four great grandchildren, Brennan, Owen, Jady and Jentry, a brother, Robert (Doris) Lewis of Salem, a son-in-law, Rodger (Dena) Hagen of Louisville and by a special friend, Don Kinkelaar of Teutopolis.

In addition to her parents, Jeannie was preceded in death by two brothers, Chester and Darwin “Red” Lewis, two sisters, Linda Kay Schirr and by Alice Lewis in infancy.

Funeral services honoring the life of Jeannie will be conducted at 11:00 am Saturday, May 25 at the Triplett & Neal Funeral Home in Louisville. Pastor Roger Marshall will officiate. Interment will follow at Orchard Hill Cemetery in Louisville. Visitation will be held from 6:00 until 8:00 pm Friday.
