Kathleen Marie “Katie” Yocom Guffey, age 44, of Casey, IL passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Saturday night, April 27, 2019 at her home after a courageous battle with cervical cancer.

She was born August 31, 1974 in Terre Haute, IN, the daughter of David Eugene Yocom and Brenda Elaine Behrens Yocom.

She is survived by her children Stephanie (Tyler) Knicley, Kohl Guffey, C J Guffey, Taylor Yocom, and Blade Guffey; grandsons, Dean and Silas; father, David (Karen) Yocom; mother, Brenda (Mark) Hardiek; siblings Noble John (Tiffany) Taylor, Michelle (Christopher) Anesu, and Jordan Hennings. Katie is also survived by her beloved boyfriend, Trevor Harris, and his children Logan and Carter; her special pet Nipper who stayed faithfully by her side. Katie had many other family members and friends who cared for her and showed her amazing love and support.

Katie was preceded in death by her grandparents, James and Norma Jean Yocom and Robert and Jerry Ann Behrens.

Katie was a 1992 graduate of Casey-Westfield High School. She loved children and felt her calling was to provide exemplary in home day care for over 20 years. Katie attended Reach (Moriah Church of God) in downtown Casey.

Katie loved life and will always be remembered for her beautiful smile, her fun loving, exciting and bubbly personality that would light any room when she walked in. Katie’s unconditional love for her family, especially her children, will never be forgotten.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 4 at Markwell Funeral Home with Pastor Steve Jenkins officiating. Burial will follow in the Casey Cumberland Cemetery, Casey, IL. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m – 1 p.m. prior to the service at Markwell Funeral Home, 200 N. Central Ave., Casey, IL.

Katie has requested brand new teddy bears be brought to the funeral home to be donated to children’s hospitals after the services.
