Virginia R. Winter, 93, of Atoka, Tennessee, formerly of Newton, Illinois passed away Saturday, January 26, 2013 at the Millington Healthcare Center, Millington, Tenn.
Funeral services wil be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, February 2 at Crain Funeral Home, Newton with Pastor Tim Pearce officiating. P.E.O. funeral rites will be offered by the sister of Chapter FN. Visitation will be from noon until time of service Saturday at the funeral home. Entombment will be in the Riverside Cemetery, Newton. Virginia was born October 27, 1919 in Ste. Marie, the daughter of Merle and Nina (Zerkel) Yost. On May 6, 1943, Virginia married Homer Howard Winter in New York state. He preceded her in death May 7, 2009. Virginia was an elementary school teacher, having taught at Newton Elementary. Her memberships included the Grace United Methodist Church, Chapter FN of the P.E.O. Sisterhood and the Order of the Eastern Star No. 497.
Survivors include son, Howard (wife Lorre) Winter of Salem; daughter, Joyce (husband Bill) Garlock of Atoka. Tenn.; five grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and sister, Wilma Jean Stauffer of Las Vegas, Nev.
Preceding her in death were her husband and brother, Sam Yost.
