Sam Gressel, 49, of Effingham, IL, passed away on Wednesday, March 6, 2019 at Effingham Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Effingham.

Sam was born on March 20, 1969, in Effingham County, IL, the son of William B. and Joyce A. (Burr) Gressel. He was united in marriage to Mary Elizabeth (McLean) Koester and she preceded him in death on January 14, 2014. He later married Pamela Bennett on March 18, 2016, and she survives. Sam enjoyed fishing, talking to people and also helping them.
Sam is survived by his wife, Pamela Bennett; step-children, Daniel Bennett, Aaron Wilkey, and Sarah Wilkey (fiancé, Mark Reeves); sisters, Mary Jo Jenkins and Daisy Gressel; and brothers, Clifford Scott and Mark Braun.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Mary; step-son, Greg Wilkey; and uncle, John Burr.
The family would like to thank HSHS Home Care and Hospice, Addus HomeCare Inc., and Lincolnland Home Care for everything they did for the care of Sam.
