Fern Amanda “Peg” Parr, age 97, of Newton, Illinois, passed away at 8:07 PM - Saturday, February 9, 2019, at Newton Care Center in Newton, Illinois.

Eastern Star rites will be held at 11:00 AM – Saturday, February 16 at the Meyer Funeral Home in Newton, Illinois, with funeral services celebrating Peg’s life to follow with Chris Parr officiating. Burial will be in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Newton, Illinois. Visitation will be held 2 hours before the service. Fern Amanda better known as “Peg” was born on November 29, 1921, in Bogota, Illinois, the daughter of Pearl Otis and Cleda Xanther (Keever) Erwin. She married Pearl Edward “Ed” Parr on April 4, 1941, and he preceded her in death on November 19, 1990. Peg worked in an airplane factory in Chicago, Illinois, during WWII, following the war she and Ed came back to Jasper County and started Parr Feed Mill in Newton. She also worked for several years as a librarian at the Newton Grade School and crossing guard. She also was a Avon distributor for 40 years. Peg was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #497 both in Newton. She enjoyed spending time with her family, sewing, crocheting, gardening and showing her handiwork and vegetables at the fair.

Daughter-in-law – Marge Parr of Newton, Illinois

Grandchildren – Chris (Stacey) Parr of Hidalgo, Illinois; Mike (Angela) Parr of Watson, Illinois; Becky (Pat) Althoff of Sigel, Illinois; Ed Parr (fiancé Amber Pitts) of Newton, Illinois; Katie (Aaron) Helm of Hidalgo, Illinois; Jesse Parr (Ted Shaffer, Jr.) of Henderson, Texas; Travis (Terisa) Lingafelter of Springfield, Illinois; Terwrin (Tim) Crippen of St. Joseph, Illinois and Tyson (Michelle) Lingafelter of Lake Placid, Florida

Great Grandchildren – Tanner Parr, Kennedy Parr, Jacey Parr, Chandler Parr, Madalyn Parr, Sam Parr; Savannah (John) Wynn, Ross Althoff, Evan Althoff, Mitchell Althoff, Stormy Parr, Tristan Parr, Oscar Foster, Simon Helm, Sutton Helm, Trace Lingafelter, Hartley Shaffer, Raegan Crippen, Kyden Crippen, Wyatt (Emily) Lingafelter and Whitney Robbins.

Peg was preceded in death in by her parents, husband, son Sam Parr, granddaughter Marci Parr, and brothers Clifford, Jesse and Dallas Erwin.
