Ivan L. Cooper, 97, of rural Neoga, Illinois passed away at 8:28 P.M. Sunday, February 10, 2019 in the Heartland Christian Village of Neoga, Illinois.

He was born May 31, 1921, in Cumberland County, Illinois the son of James A. and Ella A. (Hatten) Cooper. Ivan married Myrna Alice Walker, October 27, 1940, in Toledo, Illinois. Mrs. Cooper passed away March 12, 2014. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Neoga, a Past Master of the Masonic Lodge # 834, and a past Worthy Patron of the Eastern Star Chapter # 231, both of Toledo, Illinois. Ivan was also a 32nd degree member of the Scottish Rite of Danville Consistory. He was a farmer and he was also employed by the munition factory in Mattoon, Illinois which later became Young's Radiator Company following World War II, then he became a welder for Garwood Heavy Equipment Company of Mattoon, and he retired from the maintenance department at Trailmobile Corp. of Charleston, Illinois. Ivan also owned and operated the Cooper Trailer Park of Toledo, Illinois.

He was a special person, as he never met a stranger and was glad to help anyone he could.

Mr. Cooper leaves four children, Joann Burton and husband Bob of rural Toledo, Illinois, James Cooper and wife Celeste of Joliet, Illinois, David Cooper and wife Sandy of Mt. Zion, Illinois and Karen Humphrey and husband John of Decatur, Illinois; one brother, Lowell L. Cooper and wife Alice of Philo, Illinois; two sisters, Elsie Phillips of Neoga, Illinois and Lois Massey of Greenup, Illinois; ten grandchildren, six step-grandchildren, twenty-two great grandchildren, six step great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter and one step great great grandchild.

Mr. Cooper was also preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law, Dan Stoner: three brothers, Leslie, Jessie and Donald Cooper.

A Celebration of Ivan’s life will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, February 16 in the First Christian Church, Neoga, Illinois, with Pastor Mel Workman, Rev. Chuck Bartlett and Chaplain Parker Boothe, a Chaplain of Heartland Christian Village, officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Friday with a Masonic Service at 7:30 P.M. Friday, conducted by the Masonic Lodge # 834 of Toledo, Illinois, in the Swengel-O’Dell Funeral Home of Neoga, Illinois. Visitation will also be held one hour before the services at the church. Burial will be in the Long Point Cemetery, rural Neoga. The Swengel-O'Dell Funeral Home of Neoga, IL is in charge of arrangements.
