Florence M. Michels (89) of Wheeler

 

Florence M. Michels, 89, of Wheeler, IL, passed away on her birthday Saturday, January 26, 2019 at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 2 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Effingham. Burial will be in St. Anthony Cemetery in Effingham. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday at Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham with a 6:30 p.m. rosary.

Florence was born on January 26, 1930, in Effingham, IL, the daughter of Anthony and Clara (Having) Koester. She married Arthur Michels on June 28, 1958.

Florence was baptized, confirmed, and married at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Effingham. She worked for several years as a seamstress at the Glove Factory in Effingham before her marriage. Florence enjoyed spending time with her family, cooking, baking, gardening, and tending to her flowers. She loved collecting unique items like spoons, bells, and angel figurines from all over the world.

Florence is survived by her husband of 60 years, Arthur Michels of Wheeler; four children, Kathy Zwilling and husband Joseph of Sumner, Sandy Michels of Wheeler, Karen Oliver and husband Tim of Green Oaks, and Keith Michels and wife Kristine of Wheeler; four grandchildren, Nicholas Zwillling, Dana Michels, Aaron Michels, and Sara Michels; and one brother, Donald L. Koester.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Dale and Douglas Michels; six brothers; and two sisters.
