K. Lavon Carter, 80, of Mattoon, IL passed away at 2:34 PM Tuesday, January 22, 2019 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center in Mattoon.

Funeral services will be at 7:00 pm Monday January 28 at the Barkley Funeral Chapel in Greenup, IL. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 pm on Monday at the funeral chapel. Burial will be in the Jewett Cemetery at a later date.

She was born on May 12, 1938 in Toledo, IL to Edward & Florence (Scales) Sparks. She was married twice to Kenneth Wilton Carter and David Lee Alvis.

Surviving are her sons Kevin Drum of Mattoon, Billy (Jenny) Carter-Alvis of Lerna and Jamie (Erin) Carter-Alvis of Charleston; 11 grandchildren Kevin Drum, Dustin Drum, Nicole Jones, Frank Jones Jr, Emily, Katherine and Shay Carter-Alvis; Kyle, Tory, Jaryn and Duff Carter-Alvis; 8 great-grandchildren and two great great-grandchildren; one Brother Earl Sparks of Toledo.

She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter Nicki Carter; brother Charles Sparks and sister Joyce McSchooler.

Lavon was a phlebotomist and worked at the Coles Clinic in Mattoon for years; before that she had been a waitress. After retirement she enjoyed spending time on Facebook, reading Nicholas Sparks books, and old country western music. But most of all she loved her kids and grandchildren. She was baptized at the Jewett Community Church.
