Patsy Ann was born and baptized in Norway, Kansas. Born November 6, 1933 to parents Melvin Martin Smart and Ethel Pearl (Meyer) Smart. She married Merle Dean Hubbard on May 16, 1954 and together the couple had two children. Patsy lived most of her life in Kansas small-towns serving as a registered nurse, a calling to which she would dedicate 48 years of her life. She also enjoyed other jobs, such as driving trucks with her husband, editing for the Waterville Telegraph, selling newspaper ads and Avon products, as well as selling National Motor Club Memberships. She finally retired in June of 2004, moving to Topeka shortly thereafter to be closer to her daughter and family. After watching her grandsons graduate high school she moved to Effingham, IL in 2006 to be closer to her son and family, where she would spend the rest of her days surrounded by loving and ever-extending family. Her love for life is exemplified by her vast interest and hobbies. Patsy, lovingly known as “Nana” to many, was a dedicated Christian and active member of First Baptist Church of Effingham. She was also an expert angler, a wonderful and competitive Scrabble and card player, and was especially gifted with a green thumb, spending a great deal of time in her garden.

She is survived by her son, Martin (Maria) Hubbard of Effingham; daughter, Mickey (Randy) Shannon of Topeka, KS; brother, Dr. James (Billie Jo) Smart of Washington, KS; grandchildren, Dustin (Sarah) Shannon, Cody Shannon, Ashley (Adam) Hubbard-Jackson, and Joshua Hubbard; great-grandchildren, Kalista, Alana, and Aaron Jackson; brother-in-law, Mel Hubbard; sisters-in-law, Cheryl Hyland and Marcia Hubbard. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of people who were fortunate enough to be called her friend.

She was preceded in death by husband Merle Hubbard in 1988, father Melvin Smart in 2002, and mother Pearl Smart in 2003, as well as her brother-in-law Max Hubbard.
