Donald L. Roedl, 83, of Effingham, IL, passed away on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 15 at Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Effingham with military rites. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Tuesday prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to HSHS Hospice of Southern Illinois. Donald was born on September 9, 1935, in Effingham, IL, the son of Donald W. and Helen (McConkey) Roedl. He was united in marriage to Deanne Howerton in 1955 and she preceded him in death on June 4, 2000.

Donald served his country in the United States Navy from April 1952 to August 1955. He was a member of the Effingham VFW Post 1769. He was a Ham Radio operator with his call sign being W9MLS. Donald retired from Merz after many years in the heating and air industry.

Donald is survived by his children, Dale “Butch” of Effingham, Donnie (Ann) of Effingham, Doug of Effingham, Danny “Fred” (Dawn) of Mason, and Denise (Mike) Miller of Mason; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; sister, Bette Anne Baker of Effingham; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and wife, Deanne.
