Dorothy Marie Woods, age 98, of Newton, Illinois, passed away at 8:27 AM - Monday, December 24, 2018, at Newton Care Center in Newton, Illinois.

Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM – Friday, December 28 at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Newton, Illinois, with Fr. Dean Probst celebrating mass. Burial will be in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Newton, Illinois. Visitation will be held 5:00-7:00 PM – Thursday at the church. There will also be visitation 10:00-10:30 AM – Friday in the church. Arrangements are under the care of the Meyer Funeral Home in Newton, Illinois. Dorothy was born on June 10, 1920, in Jasper County, Illinois, the daughter of Andrew and Anne (Spitzer) Sheridan. She married Leland “Ding” Woods on August 13, 1945 at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Ste. Marie, Illinois. Dorothy was a housewife and very active in the family business, Woods Stables of Newton (Harness racing, breeding and training stables). She was a fantastic wife, mother, grandmother and an amazing cook! Dorothy was a member of the St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, Smallwood Home Extension and the Newton Women’s Club.

Dorothy is survived by: husband – Leland “Ding” Woods of Newton, Illinois; Children - James “Jag” (wife Geri Lou) Woods, Jerry (wife Donna) Woods and Ilene Woods (Ron Biernbaum) all of Newton, Illinois; Sister – LaVaun Nix of Ste. Marie, Illinois; 11 Grandchildren and 24 Great-Grandchildren

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Diane Butler, brothers Leonard Sheridan, Norbert Sheridan, Lorraine Sheridan and a sister Geneva Swortfiger.
