Verena Faye (Lading) Atteberry, 91, of Effingham, IL, formerly of St. Louis, MO, and Strasburg, IL, passed away at 12:25 p.m. Sunday, November 11, 2018 in Lakeland Rehabilitation and Health Care Center, Effingham, IL.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 21 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Strasburg, IL with Rev. Steven Becker officiating. Visitation will be held at the church from 9:30 – 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday. Burial will be at St. Paul Cemetery, Strasburg, IL. Memorials may be given to the Alzheimer’s Association or donor’s choice. Arrangements are by Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Strasburg, IL.

Verena was born on March 6, 1927 in Strasburg, IL the daughter of Orvel F. and Mabel F. (Ruff) Lading. She attended St. Paul’s Lutheran Grade School and was Valedictorian of the 8 th grade. She graduated as Salutatorian from Strasburg High School the Class of 1945. Verena lived most of her life in the St Louis area and moved to Effingham in 1999. She was a member of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod.

She is survived by her son Ralph William “Bill” Atteberry of Avon Park, FL; siblings, Dwight Lading (Melvina) of Strasburg, IL, Gene Lading (Myrtle) of Sullivan, IL, Beverly (Lading, Lowe) Jones of Banning, CA, Ronald Lading (Carol) of Effingham, IL, and Paul Lading (Karen) of La Verne, CA; grandchildren, Seneca Jones of St. Louis, MO, John Wolfgang Atteberry of Phoenix, AZ, Amealia Rose Atteberry of Phoenix, AZ, and Pryada Atteberry of Avon Park, FL; one great grandchild, Mera Jones of St. Louis, MO; and several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, John Steven “Johnny” Atteberry; brother, Orvel Lading (Ruth); and brothers-in-law, Richard D. Lowe and Sherman E. Jones.
