Walter Garland “Skillet” Galloway, 75, of Farina passed away on at 7:14 PM on Monday, November 12, 2018 at HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham.

He was born on June 23, 1943 in Champaign/Urbana the son of the late Walter John and Imogene Ruth (Wyatt) Galloway. Garland married Elena Kay McGrew on August 12, 1961 at Bible Grove Christian Church and she survives. Mr. Galloway worked for Wabash Communications retiring after 33 years of service. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed the outdoors. He was a member of the North Clay school board for several years and also served as a volunteer fireman for Bible Grove Fire Protection District. Garland and Kay attended Christ's Church in Effingham.

In addition to his wife Kay, he is survived by three sons; Mark Garland (Shannon) Galloway of Louisville, Todd (Julie) Galloway of Louisville and Steven Galloway of Farina, a daughter; Chris Ranes of Farina, two sisters; Mary (Kenny) Dassenbrock of Effingham and Virginia Ondov of Ingram, TX, ten grandchildren, three great grandchildren and a forthcoming great-grandson expected in March.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Breanna Manuel.

A Memorial service honoring the life of Garland will be held at 7:00 PM on Friday, November 16 at the Triplett & Neal Funeral Home in Louisville. Pastor Dallas Bear will officiate. Visitation will be conducted on Friday from 5:00 PM until the time of service at the funeral home. Memorial contributions in Garland’s memory may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
