Melba M. Stewart, 91, of Effingham, IL, formerly of Mattoon, IL, passed away on Monday, October 1, 2018 at Willowbrook in Effingham, IL.
According to Melba’s wishes, cremation rites will be accorded. Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham is assisting the family.

Melba was born on November 30, 1926, in Strasburg, IL, the daughter of Emil and Lydia (Schmitt) Ruwe. She was united in marriage to Albert O. “Abe” Stewart on November 27, 1948, and he preceded her in death in 1992. Melba was a devoted mother and homemaker. She loved to cook and collect cookbooks. Melba worked at Consolidated Communications, and was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Mattoon where she taught Sunday School for many years.
Melba is survived by her son, Steve (Kenna) Stewart of Effingham; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; 5 brothers; and 4 sisters.
