The Lord called Derry Dale York, 85, of Effingham, Illinois, formerly of Strasburg, Illinois, home at 9:51 p.m. on Sunday, September 30, 2018 in Villas of Holly Brook, Effingham, Illinois, surrounded by his loving family.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 3 in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Strasburg, IL with Rev. Steven Becker officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00-11:00 a.m. in the church on Wednesday. Burial will be in St. Paul’s Cemetery, Strasburg, IL. Donations may be made to Trinity Lutheran School in Stewardson, IL, St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Strasburg, IL, or Lincolnland Hospice. Arrangements are by Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Strasburg, IL.

Derry was born in Strasburg, IL on September 21, 1933, the only child of Dale Adran and Helen Mildred (Grant) York. He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Strasburg, IL. Derry married Frances Lee Brandt on April 20, 1952 and for 66 years they led a very active life owning and operating several businesses: chicken houses in Windsor, Neoga, and Sullivan, IL; Richland Feed and Supply and Hog Condominium in Olney, IL; York Bin Company in Strasburg, IL for 32 years; York’s Café and Tavern in Strasburg, IL; and The Timbers Restaurant, Stables and Lodge near Hidden Springs State Forrest. He also served on the Stewardson-Strasburg school board. Derry and Frances enjoyed traveling and living part time in Ft. Myers Beach, FL, and Sun City Hilton Head, SC. They moved to the Villas of Holly Brook in Effingham, IL in 2014.

Derry is survived by his wife, Frances Lee York of Effingham, IL; daughter, Feleca Jenkins (Paul) of Fairbanks, IN; five grandchildren, Stephanie Tracy, Derrick York (Nikki), Carrie Wartsbaugh (Caleb), Dustin York (Karen), and Jack Wade (Lisa); and ten great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dale and Helen York and son, Doyle York in 2007.
