On Thursday, September 27, 2018, Eugene P. Dust, passed away at HSHS St John’s Hospital in Springfield IL. He was a loving son, brother, husband, father and grandfather.

He was born in Rockford, IL to Elizabeth Ann (Smythe) and Paul R Dust on August 22, 1952. He received his Medical degree from the University of Illinois Rockford, he was board certified as an Internal Medicine Doctor and practiced with excellence at his Effingham office since 1981. He married Linda J (Ferrini) in Lexington, KY on August 30, 1980. They had two sons, Eric and Drew, and two daughters, Amber and Adele.

Eugene cared deeply for his patients both in and out of the hospital. He was a master of his trade, but also managed to be a jack of all trades. His entomology hobby was meticulously detailed and was impressive enough to be featured in its own piece in the EDN. His love of the outdoors was prodigious enough that he created a large portion of his own camping gear, and was a true outdoorsman having mastered backpacking in all conditions: winter blizzard / sweltering desert / mountain peaks / everglade swampland. In life, he was a family man, always willing to go out of his way to help those around him, persistently finding ways to busy himself, and constantly thirsted for knowledge, learning a variety of skills above and beyond those required by his profession. He was a great man who is dearly missed.

Eugene was preceded in death by his father Paul. He is survived by his wife Linda, four children, brothers Glen and Duane, sister Eileen, mother Betty-Anne and 3 grandchildren. His wishes were to be cremated. A funeral service will be held at 11:30 am Tuesday, October 2 at Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham. A memorial luncheon will be held afterward at the Effingham Performance Center from 3pm-5:30pm. Condolences may be sent to Bauer Funeral Home Effingham, IL; and in lieu of flowers please send donations to Catholic Charities or Ballard Nature Center.
