Rodney Alan Raber, 48, of Effingham, IL, passed away on Thursday, September 27, 2018 at Decatur Memorial Hospital in Decatur, IL, surrounded by his loving family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, October 5 at Christ’s Church, 2511 S. Veterans Drive, Effingham, IL. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery in Effingham. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the church. Services are in the care of Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham. The family requests casual attire for the services.

Rod was born on June 29, 1970, in Effingham, IL, the son of Richard F. and Karen Sue (Johnson) Raber. A member of the First Christian Church of Effingham, IL, he was united in marriage to Marnie R. Stoneburner on February 27, 2010 at Christ’s Church in Effingham, IL where he regularly attended.

Rod was employed by Three Z Printing in Teutopolis, IL as a Third Shift Shipping Supervisor for 25 years. He was a volunteer of the Watson Fire Protection District. He retired from his position as Assistant Fire Chief in 2012. He was a member of M.A.B.A.S. Division 54. He enjoyed being in the world underground spending time in caves. He was a member of the National Speleological Society (Life Member), Illinois Speleological Survey, and Little Egypt Grotto of Carbondale, IL. He also enjoyed jeeping, hunting, fishing, mushroom hunting, 4-wheeler riding, camping, and spending many evenings around the campfire with family and friends.

Rod is survived by his wife, Marnie Raber of Effingham; beloved dog, Raynee; father, Richard F. Raber of Effingham; mother-in-law, Barbara Musser-Hopkins of Shelbyville; father-in-law, Franklin L. Stoneburner of Beecher City; grandmother-in-law, Lena Rose Musser of Beecher City; aunt and uncle, Ruth and Carl Bunnage and families of Fairfield; and cousins, Rob Lankford of Stone Mountain, GA, Ralph and Jean Raber and families of Mt. Carmel, IL.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Karen Sue Raber; grandparents, Levi and Bernadine Johnson and Christian and Emelia Raber; and aunt, Billie Griffith.
