Frances Irene Eden, 88, of Effingham, IL, passed away on Monday, September 17, 2018 at Effingham Rehabilitation & Health Care Center in Effingham after a lengthy illness.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, September 21 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Effingham, with Rev. Ted Gall officiating. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery in Effingham. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday at Johnson Funeral Home, 1110 N. Fourth Street, Effingham, and from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Friday prior to the service at the church.

Frances was born on July 22, 1930, in Moccasin Township, Altamont, IL, the daughter of Walter and Alice (Holste) Baumann. Frances graduated from Beecher City High School in 1947. She married Arlon Wendling in 1948. They later divorced. Frances married Don Eden in 1971. He preceded her in death. Frances was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Effingham and for a time served as the St. John’s Lutheran Church secretary. She later worked for many years as office manager for a silo sales and construction firm in Effingham.

Frances enjoyed sewing and quilting and was very active with those hobbies until her vision began to fail. She really looked forward to visits from her great-grandchildren.

Frances is survived by her son, Roy (Pat) Wendling of Algonquin, IL; granddaughters, Teri (Casey) Watson of Crystal Lake, IL and Jana (Dan) Mendro of Cary, IL; stepson, Mark (Faye) Eden of Effingham, IL; step-granddaughters, Brittany McGrath and Rachel Eden both of Charleston, IL; sisters, Violet Kirchhoff of Effingham, IL, Jeanette (Willard) Kopplin of Altamont, IL, and Nancy (Jerry) Broom of Salem, IL; as well as several great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Don, she was preceded in death by her parents and a brother- in-law, Robert Kirchhoff.
