Mary M. Smith (90) of Shelbyville, formerly of St. Elmo, Illinois died Thursday afternoon September 13, 2018 at 12:07 PM at the Shelbyville Manor Nursing Home.

Visitation for family and friends will be held from 10:00 am until 11:00 am Tuesday September 18 at the Fairview United Methodist Church Rural Avena Road, St. Elmo, Illinois.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, following the visitation.

Mary was born on the family farm, Avena Township in Rural St. Elmo, Illinois on May 21, 1928 one of five siblings into the Christian family of Fred Sylvester Bail and Harriet Elizabeth Fletcher-Bail. She graduated from the 8th grade from Star School, Avena Township and high school from St. Elmo Community high school in the class of 1944. She married William D. King from Birmingham, Alabama on May 9, 1949. Mr. King preceded her in death on April 24, 1952. She then married R. W. Smith on November 15, 1953 and he survives.

Mary was a housewife and a mother, and was employed outside the home in various office positions as the need arose, retiring from Archer Daniels Midland Company of Decatur, Illinois after a 20 year tender on September 31, 1989.

Mary leaves to mourn in her passing: Husband R. W. Smith of St. Elmo; 2-Sons: Steven (wife, Patty) King of Tulsa, Oklahoma; Rodney (wife, Sherry) Smith of Edinburg, Illinois; 2-Daughters: Marcia (husband, Rev. Dr. Milton) Bost of Chatham, Illinois; Beverly (husband, Gary) Waltrip of Decatur, Illinois. 18 Grandchildren and 19 Great-Grandchildren; 1-Brother-in-law: Ronald Ragsdale of St. Elmo, Illinois.

She was preceded in death by her Father, Mother, Brothers Dale, Robert and Stanley Bail and 1-Sister: Karel Ragsdale.
