Marilyn Ann (nee Niccum) McDevitt, 85, of Effingham, Illinois, died quietly at home surrounded by family on Sunday, September 9, 2018.

Born in Effingham on July 17, 1933, Marilyn was the daughter of the late Dr. Dwight A. and Catherine (Stockman) Niccum.

Marilyn is survived by her husband, John T. McDevitt; her children, Mike (Becky) McDevitt, Cathy (Jim) McDevitt, Karen McDevitt, and Steve (Jennifer) McDevitt; her sister, Karen (Richard) Wooley; sister-in-law, Rita Niccum; her maternal cousin, Mary Ellen Eversman; nine grandchildren, Sarah (Wade), Jay (Esther), Melanie (Cayce), Jamie (Shawn), Maggie, Jesse, Zarah, Luke, and Mallory (Eric); and three great-grandchildren, Bryton, Weston and Crosby.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers Gene Niccum and Jeffrey Niccum.

Marilyn lived a full and varied life centered on her family. She retired from teaching after 37 years with the Robinson, Illinois, school system. She touched the lives of many, and treasured her friends and family.

A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 13 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Effingham. Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. prior to mass on Thursday at the church. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery in Effingham. Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham is in charge of arrangements.
