Mary F. Slifer, 79, of Beecher City, IL passed away on Monday, September 3, 2018 at Decatur Memorial Hospital in Decatur, IL.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, September 7 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Shumway with Father Chuck Edwards officiating. Burial will take place at St. Mary’s Catholic Church Cemetery. A parish prayer service will be held at 4:45 p.m. followed by visitation from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Thursday at Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Beecher City. Memorials may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Shumway or the Kluthe Center in Beecher City.

Mary was born December 20, 1938 in Sigel, the daughter of Joseph and Evelyn (Pulsford) Frey. She was a graduate of St. Anthony’s High School in Effingham. On December 28, 1957 she and Jim Slifer were united in marriage. She was an avid flower gardener, enjoyed spending time with her family especially her grandchildren and was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Shumway.

She is survived by her husband, Jim of Beecher City; three children: Catherine (Bill) Bryant of Cincinnati, OH, Jean (Steve) Pieper of Stewardson and Brian (Karla) Slifer of Effingham; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and sister, Ann (Don) Goldstein of Effingham.

Preceding her in death were her parents, two children, Thomas and Cindy and two brothers, Eugene and John Frey.
